Policies and Procedures

Entrance Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be physically able to complete the program. The Oriental Healing Arts Institute does not discriminate based on race, age, gender, religion, and national or ethic origin in the admission process.

Enrollment
Prospective students may enroll any time with a suggested time frame of 3 to 4 months prior to class start time. All massage students must submit a completed Application, $50 Enrollment fee, and 2 letters of character reference, one personal other than family and one professional, at the time of their Interview and Tour. Within two weeks after the interview, the student must submit a Brief Biographical Sketch (form available at Interview). The Application Fee will be refunded if the Applicant is not accepted into the program or withdraws prior to enrollment. Late enrollments will be accepted up to two weeks after the course start date.

Acceptance
Based on the Application, Interview and Brief Biographical Sketch, OHAI will mail acceptance letters within 2 weeks. If your intended class is full you will be put on a waiting list.

Credit for Previous Training
Credit for Previous Training will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Records from the previous Institution must be submitted at the time of the Interview. The school does not guarantee the transfer of its course hours to any other educational institution. Acceptance of course hours is up to the receiving institution.

Starting Date
The School’s policy regarding postponement of starting date and the effect on student’s rights to a refund: Postponement of a starting date, whether at the request of the school or the student, requires a written agreement signed by the student and the school. The agreement must set forth:

a) Whether the postponement is for the convenience of the school or the student, and:

b) A deadline for the new start date, beyond which the start date will not be postponed.

If the course is not commenced, or the student fails to attend by the new start date set forth in the agreement, the student will be entitled to an appropriate refund of prepaid tuition and fees within 30 days of the deadline of the new start date set forth in the agreement, determined in accordance with the school’s refund policy and all applicable laws and rules concerning the Private Occupational Education Act of 1981.

Attendance Policy
OHAI expects 100% attendance in all classes. Students are expected to arrive on time. An overall attendance rate of 90% is required. 3 late arrivals or early departures of more than 15 minutes will equal an absence. 100% attendance in clinic is required with no exceptions.

Make-up Policy
Make-up is required and determined by the Instructor for missed class, past due assignments and poor hands on or test grades. You may attend the same class with another group when available; however, due to lag time of groups, it is generally more efficient to attend a private tutorial at the student’s expense.

Conduct Policy
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and professional manner at all times. The following may lead to probation or dismissal:

  • Failure to maintain passing grades
  • Failure to pay tuition or fees
  • Poor attendance
  • Attending class under the influence of drugs or alcohol or possession of weapons
  • Disruptive behavior, destruction of property including any type of harassment or abuse such as foul language
  • Any action deemed to be in violation of school policy or ethics
